Health Concern when travelling to Cambodia

Vaccinations: Hepatitis A & B is always a good idea to have before coming. Malaria happens but generally travelers are unaffected so long as they stay in urban areas.

Water and Food: If staying in Cambodia for any kind of time period, the chances of getting some kind of mild food reactions are excellent. Make sure to bring rehydration fluid and anti-diharheals and scout out some good toilets. Be sure that the places you eat are clean. Water in Cambodia is never potable. You should buy bottled water and this is cheaply available pretty much anywhere. In a pinch, you can also drink hot tea from restaurants. Avoid ice cream and ice from stalls.

Malaria & Dengue Fever: This is a problem, particularly if you get into Palin or Battamarang. If you have a bad fever, Cambodia, or Phnom Penh for that matter, isn’t the best place in the world to get treated. Do your best to at least get to Ho Chi Minh City or try to get back to Bangkok.

AIDS: In recent years, this has become a serious problem in Cambodia. The problem is now not a whole lot better than in some of the bad parts of Thailand. The best advice is to avoid encounters and also to try and bring your own syringes just in case.
